City, OR, Website
This city in Columbia County, just north of St Helens, was founded in 1867
by Jacob and Joseph Caples. The citizens of Columbia City hoped that it would
become the terminus of a major railway, but they were disappointed .Mount St.
Helens, Mt. Adams, Mt. Hood, Mt. Rainier, and Mt. Jefferson are all visible
from Columbia City. Come the first Saturday after Labor Day to the Columbia
City Celebration and watch the parade and other entertainment.
Columbia City has a temperate
climate with dry, moderately warm summers and wet, mild winters. Average
annual precipitation in the County is slightly less
than 50 inches. Prevailing winds up and down the Columbia River provide some
circulation in local air sheds and assist in dilution of air pollutants. Snow
or freezing weather is rare, and 100° F. is seldom reached in the summer.
