OR Website
Forest Grove offers small town living at the edge of the Portland metropolitan
area. Situated 24 miles west of Portland, and an easy drive through farm
land from Highway 26 and the Sunset High Tech Corridor, the city is considered
to be a part of the metro area.
Forest Grove has aged gracefully preserving the charm of its historic homes
and tree lined streets while making room for industry and the economic stability
a diverse economy entails.
Forest Grove is the historic home of the Tualatin tribe. In 1849 pioneers
settled the community that today is Forest Grove. That same year Pacific University
was founded, making it one of the first educational institutions in the western
United States.
The City of Forest Grove was incorporated in 1872, named for a large grove
of Oregon white oak growing on a knoll rising over the Tualatin Plains. Forest
Grove has been named a Tree City USA since 1990, is particularly identifiable
for its population of non-native giant sequoia growing there.
