A small former mill town, Wheeler is having a revival as a tourist destination.
Wheeler, Oregon is located in Wheeler County on the Northern Oregon Coast about
100 miles west of Portland. Take Highway 26 to Highway 101 and go south to
Nehalem or turn left onto Highway 53 off Highway 26 to
Highway 101 and then south to Wheeler (19 miles). The village is named for
lumberman Coleman H. Wheeler. The population is 390 (1997). Median
age is 50.
